CASE STUDY

For the Retreat by True Voice at Revolt World 2023, I had the pleasure of contributing to an experiential design project that stood out as a key feature of this groundbreaking event. The Retreat, led by Creative Director Qimmah Saafir, offered a space dedicated to mindfulness and reflection amidst the vibrant energy of Revolt World. My role involved designing all the graphic assets that adorned the physical props within the retreat area, ensuring that every visual element resonated with the event’s theme of empowerment and inner peace.

SAGE SEED PACKAGING

One of the standout elements of the retreat was the Sage Seed Packaging, a task brought to me by instructor Chris Campbell. Already involved in designing the print materials for the retreat, I eagerly took on this project. Drawing inspiration from the concepts of light, manifestation, and the retreat’s serene waterside location, I developed a design featuring a bright gradient and an illustration of sage, with typography aligned with the True Voice branding. This packaging not only served its practical purpose but also aligned with the retreat’s overall aesthetic and mission.

INSPIRATION BEHIND THE DESIGN

The design process was a close collaboration between Qimmah Saafir and myself, where we meticulously planned and developed mockups that would bring the retreat’s vision to life. I focused on creating graphic assets that would enhance the physical environment, incorporating bold colors and type that warped around images to create a sense of depth and dimension. The site map created by Qimmah visually laid out the retreat space, which included conceptual ideas like a swing and charging stations under a dome, contributing to the immersive experience.

ART DIRECTOR & DESIGNER

The final execution of the retreat’s design was a harmonious blend of intention and creativity. Attendees were welcomed through an arched entrance that led them down a pathway lined with mirrors inscribed with rap lyrics, carefully chosen for their resonance with themes of mindfulness and reflection. The headphone wall allowed participants to listen to meditations from the True Voice app, while a plant wall featuring a quote from Lauryn Hill added a touch of natural beauty. The centerpiece was a beautifully curated meditation area under a tent, where sound bowl sessions and live guided meditations took place, offering participants a moment of peace in the midst of the festival’s energy.

This project was a testament to the power of collaboration and intentional design, creating a space that was both visually striking and spiritually uplifting.
