Each/Other:
Marie Watts & Cannupa Hanska Luger
CASE STUDY
For the Each/Other: Marie Watt & Cannupa Hanska Luger exhibition at the Denver Art Museum in 2021, I had the privilege of designing the front and back covers as well as the full interior for the accompanying book. This exhibition, the first to feature the collaborative work of these two leading Indigenous contemporary artists, showcased 26 mixed media sculptures, wall hangings, and installations. My design aimed to capture the essence of the exhibition’s themes of community, collaboration, and the shared process of creation.

INSPIRATION BEHIND THE DESIGN
In designing this book, I provided two distinct options for the cover and interior layout. The first concept was vibrant and colorful, drawing direct inspiration from the dynamic work of the artists. The second, which the client ultimately selected, featured photographs of the artwork with a color scheme derived from these images. This approach allowed the artwork itself to guide the visual narrative of the book, ensuring that the design felt both cohesive and reflective of the exhibition’s spirit.

FINAL GUIDEBOOK DESIGN
These options were intended to offer a visual experience that echoed the collaborative and community-focused nature of the exhibition, making the book not just a companion piece but an extension of the artists’ vision.
